Father’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re looking for ways to make it special for Dad you’re in luck! There’s a fantastic array of events and activities happening across the region that cater to all sorts of interests. And these are just the tips we have!
For the History Buff Dad:
Overnewton Castle in Keilor is hosting a “King’s Feast” Father’s Day event, complete with a welcome drink, a special menu, and a historical tour of the castle. This stunning example of Victorian architecture offers a unique and memorable experience for dads who appreciate history and fine dining. Alternatively, you could take Dad on a tour of Werribee Park Mansion and explore the stunning gardens, or head to the RAAF Base at Point Cook for an Open Day! (Bookings essential).
For the Golf Enthusiast Dad:
Treat Dad to a round of golf on the historic Eynesbury course, established in 2006 on the grounds of the Eynesbury homestead. This beautifully preserved property dates back to 1872 and offers a unique blend of heritage and modern amenities. The Father’s Day deal includes 18 holes of golf and 2 coffees at Birdy & Co Café for just $59. It’s valid until November 29th, but bookings are limited to weekdays.
For the Foodie Dad:
If Dad enjoys a relaxed atmosphere and good food, there are plenty of options to choose from. Witchmount Estate Winery is offering a special Father’s Day lunch with a pizza menu, light options, wine, beer, and spirits. Bookings are essential.
For waterfront options, 3030 Waterfront Bar & Grill at beautiful Wyndham Harbour is open as usual for draft beers, casual share dishes, and pizzas using locally sourced produce. The recently refurbished Anglers Tavern, is the perfect place for a pub feed by the banks of the Maribyrnong River.
Joseph’s Dining at Lancemore Hotels, Werribee Mansion is launching a new high tea on Father’s Day, priced at $99pp including free-flowing sparkling wine and free beers for fathers.
Alternatively, you could explore the BBQ scene, with options like Sunshine Social and Tikune Momo & Sekuwa House in Sunshine, and Phi Phi 2 in St Albans offering delicious charcoal-style cuisine.
These restaurants and pubs in Williamstown, Newport, and Altona are also fabulous options:
- Porter’s in Williamstown: Two-course Father’s Day lunch for $45, with kids’ options available for $17. Located in Nelson Place, opposite Seaworks. Modern Australian cuisine with great steaks.
- Junction Hotel in Newport: Great pub vibe with delicious steaks.
- Pier 71 Bar e Cucina in Altona: Wonderful Italian food and cakes, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Father’s Day so book in.
For the Masterchef Dad:
American Barbecue lovers travel from all over Melbourne to savour Houston BBQ’s no-frills Texas-style barbecue in Keilor, and they also run a Smoke School! Head to the Mt Zero Olives warehouse in Sunshine West on Saturday, August 31st for the Mt Zero Zero Waste Warehouse Market. This is a great place to find eco-friendly gifts for Dad, from bulk foods to handmade items. It’s a great way to support local businesses and find unique gifts that Dad will love. For the Outdoorsy Dad:
Melbourne’s west offers plenty of beautiful parks where you can enjoy a Father’s Day barbecue or picnic. Brimbank Park in Keilor East is a fantastic choice, with its accessible walking paths, playgrounds, and picnic areas with gas barbecues. You could also set up for the day at Footscray Park along the Maribyrnong River, Queens Park in Moonee Ponds, the Williamstown Botanic Gardens, or go bird watching at Point Cook Coastal Park. To name a few options!
For the Beer-Loving Dad:
Breweries like Moon Dog Wild West in Footscray, the recently renovated Franco Cozzo Building and the Hop Nation Brewing Company – Footscray Tap Room, Brooklyn, and Barbarian Brewing Co. in Kingsville are great spots to celebrate Father’s Day. Barbarian Brewing Co. is even hosting a special Carvery Roast event with a mouthwatering Beef Rib Roast on Sunday, September 1st.
If you’re looking for something a bit special and different, Rosanna Bar and Bistro at the Holiday Inn Werribee is hosting a Stone & Wood Beer Pairing Dinner on September 5th.
For the Movie-Loving Dad:
The Sun Theatre has a special preview screening of the heartwarming family film RUNT, based on Craig Silvey’s best-selling novel. Starring Lily LaTorre as Annie Shearer with Squid, the rescue dog, as Runt. Sunday 1 September 2pm.
