About Railway Stories
Metro Trains is partnering with Storytowns and the Department of Transport and Planning, creating geo-located podcasts to provide passengers and tourists with a new way to experience Melbourne while travelling by train. Western Melbourne Tourism has been working with Storytowns to identify unique stories of Metro Train routes in Melbourne’s West.
The first covers the Williamstown line, from its maritime history to the invention of Trugo (a game originally played by railyard workers, unique to the west)!
The use of geo-located podcasts along the city’s train lines is an Australian-first with the podcasts playing automatically as you approach a landmark or point of interest across Melbourne’s one- thousand-kilometre metropolitan train network.
An additional 87 podcasts are in the works across Melbourne, including all train lines in Melbourne’s West. They are scheduled for release in March 2024.
